Hood hosts cyber safety event with nationally regarded experts

Glen Ellyn, IL- Announcing she is hosting a FREE cyber safety event for families, Stefanie Hood invited the community to the Glen Ellyn Civic Center on Monday evening for a powerful presentation empowering students and parents to protect themselves and understand the risks of social networks and gaming.

Glen Ellyn, IL- Announcing she is hosting a FREE cyber safety event for families, Stefanie Hood invited the community to the Glen Ellyn Civic Center on Monday evening for a powerful presentation empowering students and parents to protect themselves and understand the risks of social networks and gaming.


“In bringing together experts like Detective Wistocki and Geri Kerger with NAMI DuPage, families will have a one-stop-shop for hearing about how to protect their families from crimes and the mental and behavioral health risks accompanying online social activities,” said Hood. “We hope parents and students can learn more about how to protect themselves and deal with these difficult issues families are facing every day in our community.”


The event will be on Monday, September 12 from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center (Clayton Meeting Room), 535 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn. The event is FREE to attend and provided as a public service.


Detective Richard Wistocki, a nationally recognized High Technology Cyber Crimes Specialist, will be presenting proactive strategies, expert insight, and invaluable resources designed to empower you to combat cyberbullying, vaping, and sexting. Geri Kerger, Executive Director of NAMI DuPage, will discuss the impact of cyberbullying on youth mental health and the increased need for counseling services.


The presentation will include information and strategies on understanding the lack of online anonymity; appropriate protocols for reporting cyber-bullying, sexting, or sextortion; understanding the dangers of popular apps; how internet investigations are conducted using subpoenas and search warrants; understanding laws as they relate to social media about harassment, cyber-stalking, and false impersonation; how to protect your digital footprint and why it is important to do so; as well as an opportunity for questions from participants & answers from experts.
